CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OUTREACH  – Prison Book Ministry

Prison Book Program receives thousands of letters each year from people in prison requesting free books. We rely on volunteer power to get books and other printed material into their hands.

Volunteering helps make a difference! Our packages provide not just books, but also a human connection for people who experience far too little generosity and kindness.

Every package of books we send is carefully assembled by many volunteers completing numerous tasks:

Pickers read letters and select books to match requests.

Invoicers write up a packing slip and ensure that prison mail restrictions have been met by the Picker. Invoicers also write a short, personal note to the recipient.

Packers prepare everything for the mail, taking care to adhere to the various packaging rules of each facility. Packers get the books out the door!

Our popular volunteer program is a unique, rich experience that introduces participants to the realities of the American prison system. We have a wide range of tasks that can accommodate diverse abilities and ages.
